Console games are 480p upscaled?

Aye, but I mean like the matching colors to disguise bad AA and other tricks, wouldn't that detract from the overall quality when it comes to the superior hardware'd platform?

I was recently told that while our games on PC run at true 720p, 1080p etc the consoles only run upscaled 480p resolutions (before being applied the resolution of your T.V).

People wonder why the Xbox can still pump out impressive visuals?

Not a console hate thread btw, just wondering if it is true, and if it is, I think people should know. :p

Dont forget most games also run at 30fps max.

Most games are 720p and upscaled to 1080p there are only a few that are of a lower res and even fewer that are 1080p (Rayman Origins is one i believe).

Rumours say that apparently PS4 and the next Xbox are to be 1080p native with some sort of AA support.

The Graphics chip inside the 360 is indeed faster than the one in the PS3. This is quite a little known fact as most assume the PS3 has better graphics. The PS3 does have a faster CPU though. :)

This is correct. 360 has a better GPU than PS3, but PS3 is able to produce better graphics in some games due to developers using some of the Power of the CPU to do stuff, which is why generally multiplat games will look better on 360, but games designed just for PS3 like Uncharted look better than most 360 games.:)
