Hi. So I recently acquired an old gaming PC from my brother to relive my youth of playing Age of empires. Normally I'm a full on xbox one only gamer. The current PC is quite old so I'm looking more into building a budget gaming PC from scratch than upgrading this tower. Currently has a GeForce 9600 GT with an Intel core 2 quad CPU Q6600 2.4ghz and 8GB of DDR2 RAM.

I've been trying to do a little research online and I've compiled a list of components which seem to be compatible on PC part picker.

I'm looking to play not only the classics but quite fancy PUBG, GTA V, Rainbow six siege and generally FPS titles. Budget wise my components have came out around £500 and I could push this a little further if required. I'm not looking to play on highest specs with high FPS or anything just some good looking enjoyable gaming.

Any feedback or advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

For PUBG and GTA, push a bit more for i3-8100 quad core + cheapest Z370 board, or Ryzen 1400 (or better) and a decent B350 board. Will make it more enjoyable. Dual core will struggle.

The RAM you've specced is SODIMM, for laptops. Change it for DDR4 288-pin. 3000-3200MHz is a, if not the, sweet spot, if not much more expensive than slightly slower options.

With regards to the GPU, get yourself a 6 GB GTX 1060 or a 8 GB Radeon 570. It'll be an extra £100 well spent. And I suggest you remove the competitor mentions.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £578.05 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Add Windows and a case of your choice.

£500 is a decent budget for your needs, but yea quad core would be a much wiser choice, i3 can suffice especially if on a tight budget, could maybe push it to an i5? Slap it alongside a 1050ti and you gold, or maybe something like a 970 for a bit more bang for your buck

Dual core and 1050Ti for PUBG= you will cry. Also SODIMM RAM is not for desktops.

If you want to play PUBG at 1080P and have a competitive experience, you will need the following. Keep in mind that if you're only getting 30FPS and the guy shooting at you is getting 80 on a G sync monitor you will lose.

Coffee lake i3 or Ryzen 1400 (I'd take the ryzen)
16GB DDR4 3000 (8 is fine for now but you'll eventually want 16)
GTX 1060 or RX 580, at least 6GB for the 1060 and 4GB for the 580.
Storage of your choosing (SSD is faster)
Additional storage of your choosing (a lot of ppl choose a small SSD and large hard drive)

If you want to play at 1440P you'll need to up the card to a 1070/1070Ti/1080 (preferably the Ti or the 80)

If you want to play at 4K You'll need a 1080Ti or one of the Pascal/Volta Titan cards. This is outrageously expensive.

Also keep in mind that PC is not a level playing field. Everyone with an Xbox one S has the same game performance. PC is not like that. Higher performance= better chance of winning. Also better peripherals= better chance of winning. I have noticeably and significanly improved my gaming wins since going from a $25 mouse/keyboard set to a $300 mouse/keyboard set. Use a high quality large mousepad.

Get a headset and sign up for discord (its free) for in-game chat in games like PUBG. People form their squads with rando's on Discord and then they hop over to PUBG to play. Be warned, people take PUBG VERY VERY seriously. It's easy to get a reputation as somebody who doesn't.

LOL! God, over a bloody game.

Oh dude totally. I was in a squad once where a guy was totally useless. He kept asking where the enemies were when we were in a firefight and harassed one of the guys in the squad to lead him into the firefight like a toddler being taken to the toilets at pre-school.

Most people talk in PUBG like

"Contact 330 about 50 meters"
"How many"
"3. One of them is shooting at me with a suppressed Kar98k"
"I have a flash hider draw his fire"
"Vehicle behind us!"
"2 and 3 look due south and run to the tree at 170 degrees will cover you"

But people break it up with humour.

"Let's move to water down"
"Do you know dee way?"
