Over there...
Interestingly, there has been lots of talk on here about how the DS is outselling everything, the 360 is doing well and the PSP is failing Sony. Whilst i'd probably agree, i found it interesting when looking at EBay that the 5 most popular searches are:

1.psp
2.ipod
3.xbox 360
4.ipod nano
5.nintendo ds

That kinda makes sense. More people have a DS so less are buying on ebay. and vice versa for the PSP.

Suspect the price of the DS and PSP new might have a barring. Most people probably wouldn't complain about paying £80-90 for a DS new but some people see close to £200 for a handheld a little too expensive.

Also, a lot of people will be looking for a lower firmware version of the PSP so the only option it to look second-hand.

Because this is clearly an efficient method of assessing console sales.

assessing sales? Not really.
Finding out popularity? quite possibly as efficient as any.

Japanese weekly hardware sales

1. Nintendo DS Lite - 158,681
2. PSP - 25,908
3. PS2 - 21,832
4. GBA SP - 1,858
5. Xbox 360 - 1,565
6. GB Micro - 1,351
7. Cube - 644
8. Nintendo DS - 114
9. Game Boy Advance - 15
10. Xbox - 7

I know its Japan, but so long as Nintendo are doing well at home (6-1 v PSP more than doing well IMO) they will always be around, regardless of polygon count and higher resolutions ;)

Where did you get those stats?

I can't believe they continue to sell 22,000 PS2s this close away from the PS3 being released.
