Morning all,

Having managed to grab a FE3090 I’m now just in the process of scoping specs and ordering the parts to go with it :D

I’ve had a pc but it’s mostly been used for RTS’ (think total war series and company of heroes in recent years as the specs fell behind some time ago).
More recently then, ive been a mostly console gamer (XSX) and before that Xbox One X so I’ve been able to play the latest games at a pretty decent quality.

I’m mindful though that I’m about take a huge, huge step up in power :D

what are the games you’d recommend that show the biggest difference to console / let the PC show off what it can do?

I’ll be connecting the pc to a LG CX OLED for that full 4K goodness :)

on my list so far:

Forza Horizon 5
Battlefield V (ray tracing!)
Battlefield 1 (sadly this never got a next gen update for console beyond frame rate)
Halo Infinite
Gears of War 5
Dishonoured 1/2 (I’ve never played these, and the console versions aren’t the best, with the second one capped at 30 fps on consoles)
Red Dead Redemption 2

I’m a big fan of the 2019 COD Modern Warfare. The ray tracing implementation looks transformative compared to the Xbox one x version so that’s definitely on my list.

The only place I can find it is on battle.net for £49 :( does anybody know where I can pick that up cheaper?

very keen to hear recommendations! I’m a PlayStation gamer too and know someone of those have started to make their way to PC as well now.

keen to hear recommendations, thanks all :)

In answering the title question, mods. Mods are what you've missed out on, and PC exclusives of old which by the sounds of it you may have already seen.

I suppose one of the most demanding games is Cyberpunk, a lot of other new titles appear to run fine on console so don't think you've missed much. Anything with full RT support is basically what you should be looking at.

I'm not even convinced pc graphics even really moved that much in the last 5-10 years tbh.

it used to be night and day between PC and console but then as games started being basically ported between the 2 we got the same graphics as consoles pretty much

I am impressed by how God of War looks now that I'm playing it on PC and I feel we've been missing out. It's amazing what they can get out of a PlayStation and doubly so since the game came out originally in 2018.

However, Cyberpunk with full raytracing and DLSS looks really good, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition with full raytracing also looks amazing, Control with raytracing and DLSS is the other standout game and runs amazingly well too (on Windows 11 you get AutoHDR in this game if you have an HDR display which makes it look even better). I know it's based on an old game, but I really like Quake 2 RTX.

Battlefield V raytracing is not that impressive compared to my best examples unfortunately and the engine has stuttering problems in DX12. It's still worth checking out though.

yea there's a few gems but it's not like back in the day where pc looked years ahead.

I'd argue the OP should really be asking "what games have I missed out on by not owning a PC for the last 20 years"

there's so many awesome PC games the consoles never had even games from 2005 etc should mostly still hold up pretty well

A few things in a quick stream of response:

Considering you are coming from an XSX - Graphics aren't necesserily night and day difference, but should deliver a smoother experience even above the 120hz mode that the XSX is capable of without having to result to dynamic resolution.

Games - shop around, places like allkeyshop can provide some good discounts on some games.

God of War has some of the best graphics I have seen, as does Cyberpunk that has previously been mentioned. RE FPS games which I see a few of on your list, one of the biggest advantages you can get would be gained IMO from sitting at a desk with a high refresh rate (beyond 120hz) monitor rather than the TV you have mentioned.

Also - something like The Witcher 3 and GTA V with a load of mods (hi res texture packs etc) really shows the difference check www.nexusmods.com something you couldnt have done before on a console

There is no Ultra wide on consoles, that alone is a deal breaker for me personally as once you go 21:9 there is no going back.

That and the fact that in order to get 60fps on consoles right now you have to lower some settings and there is no DLSS equivalent whereas on PC you just whack on DLSS and get instantly double the framerate and an increase in draw distance sharpness thrown in as well as some stuff like foliage shadows being more detailed.

There's a reason why PC ports have graphical mode preset called original usually or normal which is the console flavour of the game, with very high or ultra being specific to the PC port.

Definitely in the right direction for consoles though, but the lack of being able to just connect a console to a 34" ultra-wide and set the output to 21:9 aspect ratio means it's unlikely I'll ever be a console gamer again.

Get Warzone (Modern Warfare 2019 game engine) it's free and crossplay too. Run in glorious ultrawide or 4k with FOV as you wish.

Modern Warfare is often on sale for about £33 on Battle.net, Vanguard less so as its new. Cold war I wouldnt bother wise
MW has RTX though, only the single player campaign mode - please correct me if im wrong anyone

RTX wise;

Quake II RTX
Cyberpunk
Metro Exodus
Battlefield V
Atomic heart demo
