This is NOT an advertisement for a Trade,Just a question!
Was thinking of trading my Xbox 360 for a PS3 in the Trading section on this forum,But how do you guys think i should go about it?

I don't drive,So its not like i can meet half way etc..

So the only way would be both post consoles out to each other!

BUT what concearns me is...what if they sent me in return a faulty?
its my word against theirs and vice versa..so how would you go about it?

Our local game stores don't do a straight swap even if what you have is worth more :(...they only give you like 40-50% of what its worth towards another console.

Im fed up with the 360,theres games i want to play on the PS3 which you cannot get on the 360.

I did this a year ago in my local Gamestation - traded in my 360 with a lot of games. I had enough trade in credit to get myself a brand new PS3 with 320gb hdd, some accessories and quite a few games - not as many as I had with the 360 but still a lot.
I checked the trade in prices at CeX (they usually give the best trade in prices), printed it off and Gamestation matched every price PLUS they added £1 extra per item (which is a deal usually advertised at the store).

If I were you I would at least look into doing it this way because you're certain to get a brand new console rather than someone else's old one. Gamestation are really good for price matching with trade ins and they normally have some good deals on for buying a new PS3 plus their usual 2 for £20 or 4 for 20 deals they have on back catalogue games (handy for buying older PS3 exclusives).

I'd sell the 360 + games etc on Gumtree/Ebay/M&M just stating that collection only as you want to show it working & don't want any delivery issues.
Once sold I'd then buy a hardly used PS3 from M&M or a new Slim from a shop. I would not buy a PS3 from an unknown source.

I switched to PS3 last year by the way & bought a 2nd hand Fat which I enjoyed so much I traded it in for a Brand new Slim 160.
Deal worked sweet for me as I paid a 100 quid for the fat, a quality HD lead, 2 controllers & headset & 5 games, I traded Just the Fat in & got 85 quid off my slim.

If you want to get a PS3 or indeed any console I would trade your current gear for a new console, you get a warranty (I got a replacement ps3 days after my old ps3 died with no fuss just a switch with a delivery driver) it wont be grubby or scratched or full of bisciot from its previous owner and it will have a box and greater resale value, as you no doubt will keep it immaculate.

Whenever I've done a console swap (a regular occurrence, I regret to say) I'll always sell on eBay.

Seems to make more money than anywhere else, and that's including eBays 10% cut (and PayPals small percentage).

If it's convenience you're looking for I would try CeX, Game or GameStation. Is there a cash generator near you? I'd try there too.

Thanks for replying all,

I might pop into Gamestation on Saturday and take my 360 with me and see what they will give me in trade for a PS3....I hope they dont offer something stupid like £40.

I know Cash converters hardly give you anything so il skip them.

I would like a slim ps3 though,as i dont really fancy getting a old fat one then getting a RROD down the line.

Do you have a CEX & Gamestation near you?

If so I'd check the trade in value at CEX then get Gamestation to price match, I did this recently.

Also at gamestation at the moment for every two games you trade in you get an extra £5.

What xbox is it? My mate got offered £40 from all the regular places for the old school xbox360 phat...

Cash comverters were worse. As i remember you could get up to £80 for a newer xbox360 at some places...
