Just wondering if you have any opinion on 3D in games. I purchased a 120Hz monitor that also has 3D, not that bothered about 3D but i gave it a try anyway with my PS3 in a few games. I first tried out Killzone 3 that was pretty fun, i felt like it added a little something to the game but again i couldn't play like that for long for the eyestrain kicked it.

Then i tested Resistance 3, my dear god i swear the game was running at 19FPS it was just borderline playable for a console game but when the eggs hatch and lot of them rush at you its a lag party.

So, whats your experience with 3D and your opinion on it. Just to note i havent tried 3D on PC yet because i don't have an Nvidia card just yet but plan to try it in the future when i do.

So far my opinion of 3D is overall its a marketing gimmick in films, after watching a few films in 3D non of them added anything extra to the films, this is why i came to games in 3D in a cold approach but after trying them im a little bit more open minded but i doubt i will ever be building a system with 3D in mind.

My view on 3D is the same as Kinect, I leave a slight glimmer of a chance, maybe 0.1%, that it will ever be used in a way that interests me. Until that unlikely scenario happens, there's really nothing about 3D that appeals to me, and not just in the sense that I won't pay a bit extra, even if the cost was identical there's too many downsides and in my view no appreciable positives.

If the current implementation of 3D is gonna succeed it will do within gaming. Its just way too easy to distract yourself and break that illusion when using it passively like in film, but it can be engrossing in gaming. Hopefully the next set of consoles will allow a minimal bar of performance so when using 3D it doesnt feel such an inferior mess like it generally is now.

The quicker holographic 3D turns up the better, that will be a game changer for sure.

ps3ud0

It seemed very tacked-on to the current gen, which is no real surprise given the overheads required for rendering 3D meant making sacrifices. Could be that the next gen sees it embraced more successfully, but I think Oculus Rift is the one to watch now.

I used 3D on bops 2 zombies nuke town thats the only game so far ive enjoyed so far where the 3D actually looks good.

Oh an super star dust on Ps3 :D

I didnt know Super Star Dust supported 3D actually. I remember buying that game because it was the first game you could get that supported Trophies haha i may give that a go in 3D.

Im somewhat with the masses of 3D, i leave it a small usable option in my library of graphical options but not much more than that. I actually bought a few games i know that have 3D to test when i get an Nvidia card such as Doom 3 BFG and some games i already own such as Skyrim should be nice to try. I reserve judgment of 3D fully until i've tested PC games but i cant really see my opinion changing greatly other than its better on PC, that im sure 99% of people would agree on.

The only 3D PS3 game I've played that was really impressive was Batman AC. It made the city skyline seem very cinematic. Apart from that that, Some of them are OK, and many I don't even bother with it. Batman AC, I played start to finish in 3D

The impact the visuals take when you use 3d just makes it unplayable to me, uncharted 3 was the best 3d game i tried but the resolution was hideous soo many jaggy edges. It also seems to make everything darker and merkier especially in killzone

Its fab for 3d blurays though i often try them from love film but i dont think ill play another game in 3d

Im wanting to try Ucharted 3 in 3D but cant find the option to turn it on !!!

Ive played bits of KZ3 which was good, but gave me a head ache, Blops which felt strange having a gun moving around.

Wipeout HD was really good, and quite enjoyable.

Uncharted 3 was 3D? Dam i actually use to rent my PS3 games from Lovefilm but at the time i didnt have this monitor. Wish i could rent it again to try out the 3D now.

The option is in the games options somewhere and you can adjust the intensity too, from the games main menu before starting the campaign , mp etc

I wouldn't want 3D gaming unless it is perfected as it takes away from the game.
Same situation as films, I won't go see any 3D films (Avatar the exception) due to drop of frame rates and flickering breaking immersion

The problem is that most of the games drop the fps down to 30fps. Super Star Dust is the exception. All the games i tried in 3D (and i can't remember all of them. Gran Turismo being one) all looked worse due to the lower frame rate.

It's a gimmick, along with touchscreen and motion control. Great for kids though.

I would say touchscreen is the one thing that turned out to be a revelation rather than a gimmick, maybe forgetting the earlier resistive screens.

How have touch screens changed gaming? It's still rarely used on the vita and 3ds and mobile phone games are all horrendous.
