Consoles (not Xbox360) on HD LCD TVs?

Hey guys,

I'm a big Nintendo fan and have a NES, SNES, N64 and GC (Jap) and will be getting a Wii when it comes out.

My concern is using these low-res (480p?) consoles with HDTVs.

What's the scaling like and is there any lag?

All except the NES are using S-video connections (Composite for NES :D).

Would getting an upsampling AV Receiver help, or would it also add lag?

Many thanks

It really depends on the TV. A cheap LCD will make SD sources look terrible. But some of the more expensive ones handle SD sources very nicely (especially the new Sony models). It won't look as good as a CRT, but it'll be more than acceptable, assuming you don't sit too close :p

With the lcd and plasma screens I have owned (32wlt66 and px60) SD gaming looked **** poor. This was one of the reasons they both went back to the shop and why i'm waiting on SED (or whatever the next technology to take off happens to be)

my 27inch sammy handles SD very well, i was impressed at freeview as i noticed a huge difference in picture quaility, even though it was still an SD picture, i think its better colour and contrast ssettings

anyway my old sega megadrive works fine on this screen
