Hey all,

As of today my mbp has been spiking the SSD for some unknown reason to which I cannot diagnose, Activity Monitor shows that something is writing to the disk every 5 seconds or so by 1.01/2/3/4mb constantly.

I don't know what else to do, I've search the entirety of Google to what I could think of but nothing comes up regarding this issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. I'm at work till 1800 tomorrow so I wont be able to try anything untill then.

Edit; more info

I logged in to the guest user and the disk usage was nominal, nothing was spiking so it's definitely something to do with my main user, just don't know what.
Appears to be happening on the Guest account too aswel.

Why didn't the guy do a low level format and then realign a new partition instead of trying to manually clear the state by writing over the whole thing?

The thing is mine isn't an issue where the write performance is affected, it can read and write fine, this issue is that it's randomly writing to disk for no apparent reason.

What's CPU/RAM usage like when this is happening? Have you tried repairing permissions in Disk Utility and Verifying the Disk?

I would be tempted to just create a new user account and move over any documents you need then remove the old account if that solves it.

Cpu/ram is idle, checked permissions and such and everything is fine, it doesn't do it till a few minuets after boot, so it could be something that's loading up, just don't know how to check what it could be.

Edit:

I have an hdd in the optibay, would this cause this issue? Been fine up until now though.

Edit II:

I reinstalled Lion fresh and restored from Time Machine, fingers crossed it's okay for now!

Thanks for all the responses, just hope it keeps this way.
