Constant error 2001 when trying to restore iPhone 4

I sold my mate my iPhone 4 when I upgraded and it was working fine, fresh install of os5! Then apparently something happened and it's now stuck on a loop of apple logo ------ restart ------ apple logo ------ restart etc

I have plugged it into iTunes while holding down the home button to enter recovery mode! iTunes picks it up offers a restore as it would get to verifying iPhone then prepping iPhone for restore then back to verifying then "your iPhone XXX could not be restored due to error (2001)

I've done some google I've tried it in DFU mode, I've restarted myacbook pro and even created a second user on my pro to re download the restore but still I get error 2001, I've changed USB ports!

He's not the type of due that would even know what jail breaking so I can say it has happened from a 2 days old update!

Anything else I can try or do I have a dead phone

Have also quit ituneshelper and tried again! Still nothing!

It's out of warrenty by 3 months or something so that's not going to help me

Try another PC or MAC?
is the phone Jailbroke and has the modem firmware been changed to the iPad version?

was never jailbroken or anything like that.

vie updated my mac and it seems to be working now
