Constant SLI Problems

Hi Guys,

Been trying to use my two XFX 6600GTs in SLI mode for ages now and just can't seem to get them to work consistently. Both cards work fine on their own (one has just been replaced by XFX, although they couldn't find anything wrong with the previous one).

Basically, sometimes they work fine and sometimes they don't. When they're not working, I get a (much) lower 3DMark05 score in SLI than I do with each card individually (currently 2439 in SLI and approx 3774 individually). Sometimes, toggling the Enable SLI mode in the video card properties makes it work for a while, but it usually soon reverts back to slug mode. When it's working, I get about 6600 3D Marks in SLI. I'm not jut using 3Dmark05 - The performance drop is also reflected in frame rates - massive drop.

I've reloaded the drivers countless times, I've pulled the cards out, flashed their BIOS (they are identical now) loads of times and I'm completely stumped now.

Can anyone suggest anything I could try checking? I'm thinking now that it probably isn't a graphics card issue at all, but I don't know quite what else it could be. A conflict somewhere perhaps? I can't see anything when looking, but I might not be looking at the right thing, of course.

Specs are:
Ausus A8n-SLI Deluxe
AMD Winchester 3000+
1Gb Corsair TwinX 1024-4400C25PT
Hitachi Deskstar T7k250 SATA2 hard drive
Various IDE hard drives
Pioneer DVDRW & Yamaha CDRW
Enermax Noisetaker 600W PSU
2 x XFX 6600GT currently in SLI config

To summarise 3dMark scores:
Individual cards - approx 3700
SLI Working - 6600
SLI when not working - 2400

I'm getting so frustrated with this now. It's been going on for months! I did wonder if something was being throttled, but can't see any evidence of it in the clock speeds.

Anyway, be very grateful for suggestions!

Guy
