Constant Windows updates

I reinstalled Windows 7 professional x64 the other day (including SP1) and everyday it has been running windows updates. Something that is 'critical' is constantly needed

Is there an way to install all updates at once or a pack or something? I have now turned Windows updates completely off because its annoying me so much
 
Are all the updates and things like .net even needed? it installed a 'critical' update last night to Office 2010 32bit - Even though I have a 64bit OS

I dont see why not, i didnt use it in Windows XP for years. I just had Windows firewall and a AV

Business environments generally use WSUS servers and only include critical and security updates.

Ive never seen windows update running at work (but then we re-package software, have firewalls, proxies etc)
