Constantly offered same iTunes update

I have a workmates computer here which is experiencing problems with iTunes updates. The apple software update app in keeps saying that an update to iTunes is available but the version that it's offering is the version that is already installed. When I check for updates from within iTunes itself it correctly says that the current version is up to date. If I let software update install, it goes through the installation and then offers the same update again.

I've tried a repair install followed by an uninstall and reinstall of apple software update but it still keeps doing this.

Any suggestions?

I've had a similar thing before, only that it was for Apple Pro Codec's instead.

I was advised by apple that this is a known glitch sometimes and annoyingly the only real way to cure it is to keep installing it every now and then and it eventually goes away after a certain amount of 'updates'.

This was on Yosemite. What OS are you on?

This was running Windows 10. In the end I just left it. iTunes was up to date which is what she was bothered about. We'll just have to see what happens when Apple put out the next version. I suspect it was the upgrade from win 8 to 10 that had something to do with it.

I get this on very rare occasions running on Win 10, even when I had 8/8.1 and Win 7, happens on the iPhone/iPad as well. While multiple apps will download and update ok sometimes one keeps wanting me to update it, and it always ends up installing the same version that's already installed.

The only way to fix it is to just wait and update again, sometimes it's fine in a few mins or sometimes a few hours. This issue has happened for years, waiting usually works.
