If anyone has time could they give me their opinion on this website design that I have created for the school I work at. http://inveralmondchs.org

Not sure if maybe the banner and text is now to dark or not. Advice on layout improvements etc would all be welcome.

Thanks.

hey ho, a critiqué we go!
Sidebar need to be a bit wider, event calendar overlaps. Centre images below even calendar. Maybe a background, that would help with your widescreen issue and make it seem less, erm, plain? I would look into a couple of plugins. w3total cache doesn't appear to be minifying css, javascript and html. wp mobile pack will serve your site up in a mobile format for those who access via other devices...

Otherwise, it's looking good and seems quick!

Thanks for the feedback, It appears w3total cache had all the options disabled, weird... but corrected. I have increased the right side bar width as suggested and centered the images below it. Not sure about adding a background colour to it, but will have a think. Oh and I will look into the mobile plugin you suggested.

no worries mate....on my sites (10+) mobile use is increasing rapidly. This includes access via ipod/ipad/iphone/android but also older phones. Mobile access is now probably in the 30% range of ALL visits. Use something like statpress/statsurfer or similiar and it will give you visitor stats straight away on your dashboard

Also, try using a contact form plugin, say contact form 7 for your contact page. Makes it a lot easier than a click to email which can generate spam. You can customise it to your hearts content, just remember to add the required CAPTCHA plugin aswell

Nope.Akismet stops comment spam using the default plugin. A CAPTCHA is a series of numbers, letters whatever that's supposed to stop spambots. If you use a link as you have done, then anyone can skim the page source and get your email address. Contact Form 7 can build nice contact forms for you and it won't reveal the email address.
