Hi, wasn't sure whether to ask this in here or General Discussion. I purchased some Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 from a competitor. Unfortunately, the RAM produced some pretty bad coil whine whilst the LED's were going through their cycle. I requested a refund, the competitor issued an RMA and they confirmed that it was faulty. It clearly states under their returns tracking credit/replacement section, that a credit was due. On Friday, they sent me out a replacement set of RAM. This is due tomorrow. I have no use for the RAM as I have purchased some G.Skill TridentZ.

So my question is, if I have stated that I would like a refund in my initial email to them, am I within my rights to expect a refund? Rather than a replacement set of RAM. I initially said that I would like to return the RAM under the Consumer Contract Regulations, which I believe gives 14 days to return an item?

I'm not great with this but as I understand the 14 day return period assumes you haven't used the item. Someone will no doubt come along and post a more detailed answer

Ah ok, I think I've read that somewhere else as well. Might just sell in the Members Market at a slight loss.

Act fast to return faulty goods

Under the Consumer Rights Act you have an early right to reject goods that are unsatisfactory quality, unfit for purpose or not as described and get a full refund.

But this right is limited to 30 days from the date of purchase of your product. And this right doesn’t apply to faulty digital content.
After the initial 30 days, you can't demand a full refund in the first instance but you still have the right to a repair or replacement.

You have every right to return the goods and the competitor will unlikely say no to RMA for coil whine, I never knew memory could have coil whine till you said, first time I have ever heard that.

Neither did I. First time I've ever heard it coming from some RAM. The LED's light up in a cycle and I could hear it, although quiet, going "eeeeeeee" in varying pitches.

Anyway, I received a new set of RAM this morning. Listed them in the Members Market although I'm still contemplating getting in touch with the competitor, to see if they'll take them back for a refund. Give it a couple of days to see if there's any interest.

I've contacted the retailer to see if they can take the replacement set back for a refund. They are unopened so shouldn't be an issue?
