A few months ago I bought one of my daughters an Epson 2750 printer from Argos. I ordered it online and she went and picked it up after I sent her the reference number.
As a treat I also bought her a load of cartridges and this weekend she tried to install them but they wouldn't register. In the end she bought the printer round and I noticed the printer was an Epson 2860, Argos had sold her the wrong printer.
We have the receipt that says 2750 but Argos won't do anything because she threw the box away even though I've taught my kids to save boxes for 12 months.
Argos say the fault is with Epson for putting it in the wrong box.

Tonight we bought her another printer and made sure it was the 2750 but here's the rub, the 2860 won't fit in the 2750 box which means it must have come in a 2860 box and means that Argos sold us the wrong one.

Any advice on how to get our money back or get it swapped for a 2750?

I also await the infantile replies.

You have had ample time to inspect the goods so imo you have to take responsibility for not checking you were given the correct item

Some retailers record serial numbers of products when sold to stop people buying one to replace their broken product and taking it back. I don't know if Argos do but if the serial matches the 2860 and receipt says 2750 then you'd have your proof.

I doubt Argos bother though, so if it was bought on credit card you could look at the protection that provides or see if you can flog it on fb/gumtree without losing too much,

surely that's on them to take up with Epson? but i guess the box had a barcode etc on it so they would need that to prove you're not just bringing them back a random printer you picked up on ebay etc. my thoughts would be that you're goosed to be honest.

Was it a reduced item/end of catalogue?
Argos used to have a note in the catalogue for some items along the lines of "we reserve the right up replace with a similar or updated version", and some of the bargain sites would list what had been discovered to be getting replaced with a "similar model", as it was often the case that you'd choose last year's model but get the newer one that was listed in the catalogue at a higher price.

Unfortunately I suspect you'll have some issues getting it changed as not only has the printer been in use for months (so you're long past the "right to reject" and inspection period), but also don't have the box with the Argos stock and reservation numbers on it so you'll have an uphill struggle to show it is the printer they supplied as your only proof of purchase at the moment is the receipt.
If you've not contacted head office that would be the next line up from the store, as they may be able to do a check of expected stock levels vs real stock (assuming the store has done a stock take or someone has noticed and made a note of it) which might be able to show that they were down one unit of the 2860 but up one unit of 2750.

Unfortunately over the years I've had to learn to check Argos stuff as soon as I've bought it, as I've had issues with items being incorrect (usually to my detriment) or being returns that have gone back into stock (usually not working or with bits missing).

Was it a reduced item/end of catalogue?.

1) Argos don't sell the 2860, I've even looked at an older catalogue and it's not in there.
2) The 2860 doesn't fit in the 2750 box so that means Argos pulled it off a shelf which they believed to be a 2750.

I think jbuk is correct, too long as gone to do something and I'll have to take the £70 hit.
It's a problem because you can't get compatible cartridges for the 2860 :(

It's taught me a lesson because I had no involvement other than ordering it and I didn't tell the daughter exactly what she was picking up.
