Contact lenses - First experiences.

I managed to do it within 2 minutes on my first time. I don't really get why people find it so difficult but I guess everyones eyes are different. Now it takes a matter of seconds.

I can do my right eye in 3 seconds, left eye takes 20 as I am not as proficient with my left hand :(

 Just use your right hand then...!

It took me about 3 visits before I could put them in and take them out unaided. Now it's second nature and can be done without mirrors. Hate it when I'm a bit tired/distracted while taking my contacts out and wonder why I can't seem to get it before I realise that I've already done that eye.

I went back today and failed. Though i got them in and out 3 times they wouldn't let me have them yet. Bit harsh i thought. 3rd session end of the week :(

Took me about 10 seconds to get the hang of it after being shown the first time...I was shown a decent method I guess.

Open top and bottom eyelids with thumb and forefinger. Place contact on middle finger of opposite hand, look directly ahead, push contact straight into middle of the eye, blink - done.

Can put them in and taken them out without a mirror now.

For a change, I though I’d post back in a thread I’ve posted in :p

My feedback with my experiences today – got the in straight away, using the technique I mentioned before, hardest part was actually getting them out, never had soft lenses before so it felt like I had picked up nothing :D

Worth them for the recommended 4 hours today, vision not brilliant, do-able, but a little blurred at times, but I’m hoping this is just them bedding in or something, or my eyes getting used to them – I guess that’s kid of what I mean by ‘bedding in’.

Anyway, the lenses are very comfortable, no intense watering that I got with the old RGP ones, I felt like I had something on my eyes, but other than increased blinking (which is a good thing!), they were fine!

Now then… on to removal, and sadly these aren’t just a case of pinging them out like the old ones, I had to pinch the buggers out, with lots of eye touching, which I don’t mind anyway, but it was certainly a job and a half to get them out – all done now though, they’re sleeping in their case :p

And these are monthly disposable ones from Specsavers, all free so far, once they decide these are the set for me, I’ll order them :) Although the optician did give me a little blow today – my left eye is really heavily scarred all over, and he said that may preclude me from getting laser treatment :(

I think it's the air conditioning at my work, but a couple of times now my left contact has slipped out of place and lodged itself in the top of my eye socket. I can't blink it out, but I can feel it, and it takes ages to find. Not fun.

As for trouble putting them in, I wouldn't worry. Most of the time I have no issues any more (been wearing over a year), but every now and then I get an "In you go.... bah, come back here. Right, second try, in you go.... BAH stupid eye. Let's try that again. In you go.... OH FOR **** SAKE! Get in my goddamn eye.... OH COME ON ALREADY **** ******* ****ING THING IN MY EYE **** YOU PIECE OF **** **** GET IN MY EYE **** ******* AHA GOT YOU!! What's that? No, I haven't been crying. Honest" moment.

I couldn't put in the soft contact lenses - I have tried twice now when getting new lenses :( but I have very sensitive eyes which are v small.

So I have to wear Gas Permeable lenses which suit me. Still they take a week of getting used to - you have to wear one hour on first day two hours on second 4 on third etc till you build up to the full amount of time you would wear them.

I wish I could get laser eye surgery but just the description of what happens makes me feel ill :(

I'll stick with my GPs!

Yeah, that can be a pain, it wasn't during my trial, after the first day though it didn't take seconds I never really had an issue getting them in/out, then randomly like 6 months down the line I just could not get one out, my eye would not stop watering like mad and I couldn't get a grip on it.

Though thats much better than trying to take out a contact that isn't even there :p
After posting in this thread last night, it took me about five attempts to get one contact out - it's all in the head! :D

Ohhhh, and let's not even go near the removing of a non-existent contact! :D

Woohoo, I finally did it today and got my first set of test lenses. I got taught a new technique by a guy I hadn't seen before and it just clicked into place. Now getting used to having them in, how long does it usually take to get used to wearing them? A couple of sessions or longer?

I can still feel them and it's making my eyes really tired!

a good few sessions to be honest, don't keep them in longer than they tell you for the first week or so or they'll be a bugger to get out.

I struggled when i first got them and had to get fairly expensive lenses (acuvue trueye) before my eyes were really comfortable. I'm trying continuous (oasys) now as I'm using them more and more, they're good but now i'm wearing my contacts more i'm noticing my astigmatism (minor) in my right eye quite a bit. It's corrected by spherical now but I might pay more for some torics as I'm fussy.
