Contact lenses (for myopia) + computer use?

Hi all,

I recently got some soft 30-day contact lenses (not sure what brand because it's a free-trial) for myopia (nearsightedness) from Boots Opticians. For long-distance they make a massive difference, however, while using a computer it's slightly blurry & my eyes get tired really quickly.

Does anyone here who wears contact lenses know if vision while using a computer is likely to improve over time? The optician said they should be fine for computer use but I don't have another appointment until next month so I can't question it further.

I had soft contacts (short sighted and astigmatic) a few years back and although I was told they would be ok for working at PC, they just didn't work for me at the PC.

As you say, they were great for everything else but my eyes would dry out and just feel so knackered by lunchtime. I had bought 12 months worth of lenses in advance, so gave it a month or two to try and get used to it, but went back to glasses in the end :(
 
I wear soft contacts and use computers a good 10+ hrs a day without issue. Your eyes will take a few days to adjust to having lenses in your eyes and they are bound to get tired to begin with.
 
I am nearsighted and have been wearing contact lenses for over 20 years. I work on a computer all day, but as I am nearsighted do not need them all day long. My optician has always told me not to wear the contact lenses when working on the pc for a long time as your eyes will get very dry, and I do find it very uncomfortable if I read or stare at a PC screen for a long time wearing them. So I have glasses for every day use that I remove when reading or working on a PC (and eating for some reason). When going out or over weekends I wear my contacts. Settled on daylies though about 5 years ago after having "permanent" ones first and then the 30 day ones, which I always struggled to get on with.

This basically.

I'm infront of a computer screen most of the day, it took a few days to adjust but now it's fine.
 
Same as the OP, I don't like wearing them when using my pc as they just annoy me. I found myself blinking and trying to readjust my focus or something as well as them feeling irritable. I generally only wear them if I'm going out for the day/evening and wear my glasses or nothing when I'm at home or work.
 
It took me a few days to adjust to computer use. I still notice the difference though if I take out the contacts and sit down in front of the computer with glasses on. Contacts are only unconfortable for a little bit of an adjustment period.
 
I work and live on a PC virtually all day 5 days a week. I have astigmatism in one eye and am short sighted, I have never had any computer issues at all. Was using specsavers own but am now on Tesco so Ciba Vision.

I think it depends on your eyes and other environmental features like humidity, heat, airflow etc.
 
Thanks for the replies, I'll definitely stick with them and see how they go then.

On the subject of contact lenses, does anyone know the best/easiest/fastest way to check if they're inside out? I have no problems getting them in my eyes, but it takes me ages to try and work out if they're inside out :o

You will work it out quick enough after a while. When they are inside out, they are a little wider and flatter. Also the edge tends to point 'out' rather than up. You do need to look closely though!
