Been wearing glasses nearly all my life. I'm thinking in trying the daily/disposable type out to see how I get on with them.

Not looking to use them for sports, my eyes are good enough for that, more for work/reading/going out.

Any tips on brands, prices, places to buy them, things to look out for?

I have them and yeah you should get a trial where you can try them from your opticians.

My experience with them is pretty love/hate.
I play rugby so wearing glasses is a no-no and so contacts are brilliant for that but putting them in is so damn annoying, even after a years experience with them some days I get them in each time in one go and other days it takes me about 20 minutes to get just one in one eye.

Also if you're feeling stressed out or angry don't attempt to put them in, you won't succeed.
Hope this helps.

I never had a problem putting them in or taking them out, but TBH they were useless compared to glasses. My vision (myopia) was far worse plus I had issues re-focussing my eyes after looking at a monitor for a while that I just didn't have at all with glasses.

Even after going back twice, being retested and trying a different prescription it got no better, so I stuck with my glasses.

Whether it was SpecSavers that were rubbish or the contacts, I'm not 100% sure. I just CBA with the hassle of it all.

I wore dailies for ages until I realised how much money I was wasting. Now I use 2 weekly ones (that you take out at night and keep in solution), but they are of good enough quality to keep using for 3 weeks, which I do, and find no problems. The brand is Acuvue Oasys.

i wear contacts daily, and by FAR the best brand and model i have come accross (and all the different opticians i have spoken to agree) are the Acuvue Hydraclear Oasis, they are a little bit pricier but I can wear them for 16+ hours, on computers and then in smokey environments etc and not even notice my contacts, where as other supposedly premium brands were bugging me half way through such a stint.

I moved from glasses about 6 years ago, and really dont miss them at all except at hay fever time when my eyes are sore, but having had the steroid injection I now no longer suffer from hayfever anyway! :) happy days.

The contact lenses I've got are incredible, they're continuous wear so you never have to take them out unless you feel discomfort, I can go a week or two without noticing I'm wearing them and then I just have to take them out for a second to give them a clean. When you wake up in the morning your eyes are a little dry so it can take 10 minutes or so to get perfect vision back. You're supposed to wear them for 30 days but you can easily get a 6 weeks out of them.

I pay £15 a month from specsavers.

I have monthly disposables, and although I can't remember the brand, I recently upgraded to silicon, and it's so much better! My previous sets resulted in my eyes getting gritty and dry after about 12 hours of wear, whereas these never dry out unless you accidentally fall asleep with them in (some lazy night in front of the TV have taken their toll)

Opticians told me the ones you leave in for weeks. Well they didnt say anything negative, but said it was better to stick with ones you take out at the end of the day to let your eyes rest.

I used to use the Accuvue tru eyes daily disposable, never had any problem for years until this year. I think a mixture of hay fever and prolonged wear started to have irritation problems. My right eye used to get really red.

Had lasik about a month ago, but thats for another thread.:D Eyes feel a lot better now, but eyes do seem to go red easier due to hay fever and not having contacts as a physical barrier against irritants.

Monthly disposables, you take them out every night.. easy peasy never had a problem ,they probably last at least 6 weeks before I change them. Fallen asleep with them in a few times and you wake up with slightly sticky dry eyes.

Whatever you decide to go for, please follow the cleaning/rinsing/disinfecting instructions and routine religiously.
My wife works in QA for a large multi-national contact lens company and had to sit through a stomach churning presentation on the horrific effects of people not looking after their lenses (and eyes) properly.

This.

The daily ones i often found dried out by the evening of a 12+ hour day, pretty much every day. I only ever notice these 30 day lenses if i've been up over 24 hours and am already feeling sleepy. 90% of the time i don't even feel like i have any in as they're so much more comfortable than daily lenses.

I take mine out overnight roughly every 2 weeks and find that they are fresh as a daisy after an overnight soak in cleaner. I too easily get 6-8 weeks out of them.
