Hi,

Any of you guys regular wearers of contact lenses? I've not wore them for a few years. I'm wondering if any of you wear daily contact lenses more than once? The chap I was talking to in the opticians never really knew what the difference was and just simply told me to buy monthly ones?

Any of you folk know the difference between the daily and monthly contact lenses?

That's dead easy, if he does not give you the info you need, walk away, go somewhere for you rather than asking on a forum man. Bow to those with knowledge but this is a condition that needs that clown to treat it with respect. Cheers.

Honestly though? I've read about companies in the US getting sued because they are selling were selling same contacts but in different packaging (monthly and dailies)

I got a trial pack and wore 1 pair of contacts for 4 days running and had no adverse affects.

What is the difference between them or is just packaging? An optician is hardly going to tell you the real details...

Depends on what your prescription is. When you're stuck with a -27.5 (nope not trolling here), that's what you gotta live with. Full time wearer. It does mean that the eye dries out especially during normal office / computer usage, so I carry a bottle of Boston Advance and a bottle of Systane with me at all times.

You can wear dailies for longer, there are really any associated health issues. But they tend not to last so long, ripping or puncturing. Getting 2-5 days wear out of a daily disposable pair is reasonable if you clean them appropriately. But the savings aren't that great over monthlies.

I wear gas permeable and have done for 22yrs, not the same pair of course ;) i often take breaks from them, wearing glasses only for a few months etc. I thought about dailies and they work out fairly cheap, but i think monthlies are probably your best bet, but as pointed out i think the only real difference between them is durability. If your careful with dailies you should be able to get a few days out of them.

You will know the difference if you are trying to be sold dailies for monthlies, when you get a Daily on your finger compared to a Monthy! the difference is very apparent one is very thick and almost like rubber and sits in a cup by itself, the other is very flimsy and easy flicks inside out :).

I wear monthlies of -2 and -2.75 from boots for a tenner a month. These are good breathable ones and i was told by the boots optician that the equivalent daily breathables are 45 quid a month so quite a big difference. FWIW i have a strong dislike of glasses mostly due to the small in focus area compared to contacts. They are far superior to glasses imho.

I was talking with my optician about them, and he was recommending against them - for me i'm not that bothered with wearing glasses. He then went through the problems that can be caused, which were things like the dryness and taking them in/out.

I then told him i'll be working in a lab that doesn't allow me to wear them, as vapour from the chemicals can become trapped on their surface. :p

But as said, I think the only difference is they make them thicker than the dailies, but from the same stuff.

I'm a manager in an Optician.. We never advise people to wear dailies for longer than 12 hours, but there's only so much we can do. It's up to the patient at the end of the day. If you are going to ignore advise, you should wear one of the better quality lenses like Acuvue's Moist or TruEye... Avoid the cheap Ciba Focus Dailies if you can. The quality, oxygen transmissibility and and comfort of Acuvue are superior.

I have dailies. I have always been with Specsavers for them (even though they are the Kwikfit of the eye world) and had some cheaper lenses. I wore them all day every day for years, but started to get redder eyes and eyes felt dry. When I enquired they said I was only supposed to wear them for 9 hours tops and have one day off a week. I upgraded to the pricier (£30 per month) lenses which are made of a better material and everything improved.

I have recently dropped my lenses from 30 pairs per month to 20 due to some bumps on the inside of my eyelid, so I decided to use my glasses a little more.

I have no doubt weekly or monthly lenses are cheaper, but I love being able to take the lenses out and flick them in the bin with no cleaning ever required. If a lense has a kink or rip in it, just use another.

If your optician doesn't know the difference between monthly and daily lenses then he is lying.

That's the thing with Speccies, they try to get everyone into their 'own brand' lenses.. And they're just cheap Ciba rebrands.. Sounds like you use Moist now though, so that's good :)

I've worn contacts for about 10years now with -8.50 in both eyes. Very, very, very rarely wear glasses.. like 4-5 times a year.

I buy Acuvue Advance 2 weekly disposable lenses and on average, a single pair lasts me 3-4 months. I only change them when I notice I'm getting shorter daily wear time out of them.. but I normally wear them for around 11-13 hours a day.

Also, have purchased them online for the past 4 years from here: http://www.contactlenses.co.uk/

I used to wear monthlies up until a couple of yrs ago then changed to dailies which i found better. I was told by the optician that max i should be wearing dailies is for around 12 hrs but should be 8 hrs really. Anyhow i got lazy and wore a pair for more than 12 hrs, more like a couple of days and ended up with a nasty eye infection. Missus had to take me down to the london eye hospital to get myself treated.

Now i just wear them for about 6-8 hrs then take them out and wear my glasses for the rest of the evening...since then i havent suffered any eye infections etc.

I pay about £28 a mth for a 3mth supply of 1 day acuvue moist lenses, i have astigmatism so theses lenses are best for me according to the opticians.

Please don't take silly risks.

Here's an extreme example:

My brother wore his 1-day contact lenses for a month straight... here's the results of his right eye. It's permanent and not fixable.
