As per the title I'm considering buying a new hybrid bike for my daily commute to work and back (~12 miles ). My commute is mainly through the city on fairly rough/bumpy city streets in rush hours traffic so I'd prefer flat bar over drops. Whatever I buy needs to take full length mudguards and a Pannier rack.

I fancy going for one of the new single 1x chainsets in order to simplify the setup and avoid the need for a front derailleur. Tyre wise I'd like 37-42mm 700c wheels to help soak up the bumps in the road. A solid fork is fine though as I don't need suspension. Having grown used to them on my mountain bike I defininitely want hydraulic disc brakes.

Maybe something along the lines of :-

Specialized - Sirrus X 3.0 2023 Hybrid Bike

Whyte Stirling 2023 Hybrid Bike

Any suggestions, recommendations or thoughts?

I have a Trek FX3 which meets all of your requirements.

I got it last year for £825 but looking now costs have gone up quite a bit!

You can get the 'Equipped' version which has lights, mudguards and a rear rack factory fitted but would be just over your budget.
