Contemplating switch from Ryzen - Intel

I'm thinking of switching, I want better performance with my 3080Ti at 1440p and perhaps the opportunity to squeeze more performance overclocking.

Currently have a B350F motherboard and 3700xx with 3*8gb 3200Mhz DDR4.

Can I use my existing memory with Intel?

Is it going to be a costly upgrade? My intention is to try offset the cost by selling my 3700x / B350F and hope it might offset a chunk.

Not sure what sort of Intel mother/CPU I'd want to go for.

I have a super flower 850W PSU so no issues with PSU capacity.

Probably will need another cooler, I have a Coolermaster Evo 212 but think that might struggle a bit? Don't even think I know where the mounts are for Intel.

How high is your refresh rate? my 1600x can just about keep up with a 3440x1440p 120 hertz monitor, unless you're at super crazy high refresh rates like 2560x1440 240 hertz, I doubt it would make any difference going up to Alder lake. The reason I can see for upgrading would be productivity workloads (which I doubt is the driver behind this if you've got the 3080 ti).

Slightly of your main topic, but how does the memory controller actually handle 3x8GB? 2x8GB in dual mode and the third one in single mode? Seems a strange choice.

If upgrading to a DDR4 ADL board, I'd think you'd have to try and see if you can get the matching fourth module as 4x8GB 3200 is likely to perform a lot better than 3x8GB 3200 and be less hassle, possible more stable too.

As for DDR5; and even at gaming the super-expensive-handpicked-the-fastest-possible-DDR5 doesn't really justify its crazy price - and current unavailability - over DDR4 and I haven't seen any productivity benches showing anything otherwise. I could imagine if you 7zip all day long it might make sense but the cost would be into Threadripper territory with DDR5 which are far better suited for those kind of tasks.

It will be moderately costly to upgrade from a 3700x because you will need something decent to get a reasonable boost, maybe a 12700KF, plus at the moment you can only get expensive mobos for Alderlake. Maybe wait until the B660 or whatever chipset comes out in the new year.

Seems a 12600k would be a good boost?

Be looking at under 400 quid I think?

But worrying how long before I'm thinking I need to upgrade again.

12600 Vs 5800x, are they close games wise ?

I could just get a mobo for now and upgrade to AMD CPU after Christmas that way.
