currently have a 1920x1200 24inch, was thinking about a 27" but not convinced i need more resolution.

could probably get a better performing monitor if I stuck to 1080, without going to a higher resolution?

don't do any photo editing or anything but still want things to look nice...

Depends on what you're using it for and what your priorities are I think.

For non-gaming I'd go for a nice IPS 1440 display.

For gaming I'd go for a 1080 display with a fast (120/144) refresh.

if your a pro gamer get 144hz monitor ;)if you want a 27" go with 1440p:cool: or just stick with what you have for now or get a reasonably priced ips which is a good all round display like the dellUltraSharp U2414H then wait for more 4k monitors to flood the market and come down in price little along with maxwell cards :D

This is the decision I've been worrying over for more than a month. Had a good TN Panel 1920x1200 HP2408w that is a number of years old but still going strong. Fancied something more like 4k and spending around £500...

Problem I had was that most of the 1440 or 1600 displays I looked at had some sort of compromise or issues when it came to gaming or all round use.

I eventually went for 3x Dell U2414H in a surround setup and I'm very pleased. Can honestly say that I don't miss the drop to 1080, but love the extra width on the surround setup. It's great when browsing, and stunning in games.
