continuous 2 tone beep problem

My comp sometimes starts a continuous 2 tone beep whilst I'm using it (i.e. when I'm already in windows or linux) . I have no idea why it does this and it seems quite random - sometimes it doesn't stop unless I turn of the computer and sometimes it stops after a few seconds. It doesn't happen everyday but enough to be annoying. Everything is fairly new (4 months old) and I have an e6550 with a abit p35-e mobo but have not overclocked anything.

Any ideas?

ah yes, there may be a serious problem. Might be over heating. Consult the motherboard manual.

What BIOS version you on? You must be on at least version 14 or higher for that CPU.

I saw something on the internet saying it meant the cpu was overheating. The stock cooler was possibly a bit loose so I reseated it and since then have had no beeps so fingers crossed...

I might need to get some thermal paste though and do a proper job.

Get yourself a decent cooler and some AS5.
