Hey guys,

I've had a naff old nokia for ages and now I want to get a smartphone on contract. I have no idea who is best to go with though. The primary reason for me getting a smartphone is something to browse the net on and play some games whilst on the bus. I don't actually make that many phone calls or texts so a contract more focused on data allowance would be most appropriate.

I'm also unsure which phone to go for. I'm thinking android over iOS but there's quite a few phones with android. I'm not after something new as such, just something tried and tested.

So, any recommendations? Any tips for negotiating better contact terms and just general advice is very welcome too.

Thanks :)

Network 3 and a phone to suit your pocket, nexus 4 is sound but has a relatively poor camera and isn't good value on contract, the s3 and s3 lte are very good and can be had on contract with 3 for mid £20s as can Notes 1&2, the s4 can be got for £33 with unltd data and is the one I'd go for if I were you.

Just as a quick note to the nexus 4 on contract, I went with one a couple of days ago after originally intending to buy the handset.

Ended up taking through a contract with 3, 24 months but £24 a month for 300 mins, 5000 texts and unlimited data. If you work that out over the term it's £576, deduct the cost of the phone at £280 and divide the remaining back out gives £12.33 a month which I was pretty happy with.

The downside is the site I got it from get some pretty poor reviews - in fairness though it arrived next day without hassle, I just get the impression that doesn't happen for everyone!

I need a replacement for my s2 soon and have been looking at the s4 mini with t-moblie 27 quid a month, unlimited txt, data and 500 mins. Not a top end phone but its free, good size bit of a bump in specs on the s2. For me its more than enough phone.

I was quite tempted by the S4 mini and that seems a good price - it reminded me too much of the S2 but like it all the same, especially the size

I've just got a nexus 4 on contract from 3 for £23 a month 300 mins 5000 texts and unlimited data
Came with free google nexus 4 bumper, £40 cash back ( through quidco ) and came with a free LG L3 phone plus PAYG sim with £10 pre loaded ( seem to sell for about £40 on ebay )

I was also going to buy outright but when I found this deal wasn't worth it

Cost of 16gb Nexus 4 £288.99 ( inc delivery )

Contract cost over 24 moths = £552 - £40 cash back - £40ish ( selling LG phone on ebay ) - £288.99 ( cost of nexus 4 if purchased outright ) = £183.01 / 24 = £7.62

I couldn't get the 300 mins 5000 texts and unlimited data contract for £7.62 a month so buying the nexus 4 outright was not worth it.

Have you thought about sim only and payG phone. Can work out much cheaper, especially if you don't want a top of the range phone. I detest contracts, two years is far to long and they often aren't great.

Where did you get that deal from sir? Couldn't find it on the actual 3 site.
