will i be able to notice the difference between 700:1 and 20000:1? im looking at the Asus VH226H 22" and the OcUK Value 22"? the price different isnt that great but ill be buying two so the difference of 40 would become 80, if i can get away with the cheaper one id be happy, it'll be used for gaming and movies and the speakers in the Asus wouldn't get used as ill be buying a 5.1 set at some point. also if there are any other alternatives worth considering that'd be great! thanks guys!

The reason there is a massive difference in contrast ratio is down to the fact one is 'dynamic' and the other is not.

Dynamic contrast ratio is the effect seen by combining the capabilites of the panel itself and the backlight that is able to dim/brighten depending on the nature of what is being displayed.

realisically LCD panels will not go much above 3000:1 (non dynamic)
but you will notice the difference side by side, it will be huge.

As you wont have them side by side you'd never notice the difference, but to anyone with a higher contrast ratio monitor, yours would look washed out and dim in comparision. Go for a higher ratio if you can spare the cash, but things like response time, and input lag should also be considered.
