Ive got a fast pc at home but a very poor CRT that it is attached to. Id like to use the screen of my Macbook instead to play games on, so is there any way I can stream the PCs screen onto my Mac and have control as well?

If you used W7 on the Mac and Server 2008 with a RemoteFX card then RDP gaming is passable apparently, EVGA and others also sell hardware to achieve good performance.

Generally there's just too much lag and poor performance.

Nah, it's just not a suitable technology for gaming. I spend my days working between various machines via RDP, Logmein etc and must admit I've never tried gaming over it because within 2 seconds of using one of them you realise it isn't remotely worth attempting.

Just pick up a monitor, decent 1080 screens are below or around 100 notes so why compromise when the 'real' solution can be had for pocket money!
