controllers help please

I am wanting a controller for my pc for the little girl to play a few games.
i know the xbox controller is plug and play, but i have seen people using ps4 pads

i have seen how to set up a ps4 pad but all the info i can find gives no info on if you have to configure the ps4 pap for games or if it just works like the xbox pad

ones set up(connected) will the pc games have configured setting for ps4 pad or do you have to go in and set up ever game?

the reason i ask is my sons as an ps4 pro but only 1 controller, if i get a second for pc use, he could also use it when friends come over.
i have had a few fake 360 pads in the pasted by mistake and always sent them back, i find the L and R buttons to be on or off as a posed the Microsoft ones that have a range of motion for when you playing driving games.

I use a PS4 pad and generally I find that once connected, everything works fine. You may need to use software like DS4Windows.
Also not all games will have an option for PS4 pad layout. Usually it will only display the Xbox pad buttons. So something to get used to.

are the button maps the same tho? if the game is set up for xbox pad and it says hit R1 is that the same button on the ps4 pad or for you have to go into controller setting and remap the buttons
