I have the following:

- TV: Panasonic TX-L47ET5B
- NAS: Synology DS214se
- Media player: WDTV Live
- Phone: Android
- Bluray/surround sound/all-in-one system: Sony BDVE370

I currently play music stored on the NAS (coming out of the surround sound obviously) via the WDTV Live, or via the BDVE370. What I’d like to do is able to control the music via my phone (or even laptop) rather than have to use the TV as an interface. Is this possible using the kit I have? If not, what would I need to get? My budget is pretty minimal so I’m only looking for cheap options.

I know you can get the synology apps on your phone, but I think that only allows you to stream music to your phone, rather than use your phone to push that content to another device.

In a couple of months I’m looking to replace my all in one system with a proper AV receiver and speakers. Would a proper AV receiver allow me to do this?

Ive got a yam 673 and that has full support for what your want with an android app for it. If your looking at changing to a full receiver anyway id wait to do that

Thought I'd update this in case anyone else find themselves in the same boat.

I've just managed to do this using the DS Audio android app. I thought you could only use this app to stream to the phone, but if you go into the settings menu you can point it to another device. Both my blu ray player and wdtv were listed and I could push he audio to the wdtv live fine. I've had a couple of minor issues with it so far but I'm more than happy with it considering it's free and I need no extra kit :)

For an inexpensive option you could get a Google Chromecast for £30 which would connect to your TV or av system if it has a spair HDMI port and using the synology app to cast to the Chromecast.
