I was wondering if Teamviewer is still the best program for remotely controlling one PC from another within the same LAN or if there are any better alternatives?
You could possibly set up VNC Viewer if you wanted a little bit more of a secure method since there's been some large security flaws with Teamviewer in the past.
Splashtop works for me, with nvidia tech it actually does decent game stream performance like Steam Streaming... I use it to control my game server and also play my Windows Store games that do not work using UWPHook for steam (no xinput pass through to windows store games at present)... Plus you can purchase an annual license for remote access if you feel inclined.
The Remote Desktop server is only available on Win10 Pro and above, although the OP could have been clearer about which versions of Windows his machines are using.
It also only allows one user session (remote or local) at a time unless you're running a Windows server OS or you start hacking system files in the desktop versions.
