hi guys,

ok, this is only my second thread here if i remember right so please accept my appologies if i have posted in the wrong section.

I have a problem that i require help with, more a matter of oppinion actually.

I know that the release of the X58 chipset, socket 1366 motherboard series is just around the corner and also its companion processor the nehalem series processor, and my my, what a nice set of features the new line of boards seem to offer, truly revolutionary, couple them with windows 7 touch screen technology and computing is going to be better than ever.

Now my conundrum is over what to do in the mean time? I won't be upgrading to the new chipset until december/january when the bios updates have been released, stocks have been sorted and the price has come down (funilly enough the price on some x48 mobo's seem to have gone up on ocuk, check out the asus rampage x48 board, was £270 last week).

I am currently using an MSI X48C motherboard that has the ddr2/ddr3 dual memory configuration, a motherboard that for some reason doesnt like ocz
ddr3 memory and an E8500 core 2 duo processor.

Now keep in mind that i do not over clock any of my systems. I get a 5.7 overall vista experience rating, the processor being the only let down.

Now i am also thinking of upgrading at the end of next week and what i cant decide on is what to do. I have £350 and have the following two options.

1: I can upgrade the motherboard alone to an ASUS P5E3 X48 Wi-Fi Deluxe and stick with my current processor, excellent board but if i am upgrading in a couple of months to the 1366 chipset then it seems a bit pointless, all im doing then is upgrading from one x48 chipset board to a better quality one.

2: I can buy an ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi board, Intel Quad Pro 6600 SLACR Edition Processor and a Thermalright IFX-14 Heatsink. The problem i have with this is that i am downgrading the chipset, although most reviews i have read say that the performance between the X48 and P45 are almost indentical however this board will get me onto a good DDR3 platform, which my current board is not. I am not convinced at the minute though that the processor is a good upgrade from the E8500 that i am currently using.

My main ambition at the moment is to get onto a stable DDR3 platform and a 5.9 vista rating without OCing the bejesus out of my kit.

anyways, if you want to see my systems current specs i did make a thread about the system that i am currently using elsewhere on the site. All opinions and ideas are welcomed so please share you're opinions.

thanks.
