I have a l;arge collection of music that is in the WMA format and need to convert it to MP3.

I have found several utilities to do it and have checked out some of the ones on the sticky but with such a large collection to convert (around 40 GB) I was hoping for something like the Microsoft Plus! MP3 convertor program.

With ths MS Plus utility I could tell it to search a folder and convert every wma file it finds to MP3 and then delete the wma file. This was really good at what it did but I'm running Vista now and doubt it wouold work even if I could find the disc !!

Any suggestions ???

Just so you know, WMA is a lossy audio format. MP3 is a lossy audio format. Converting from WMA to MP3 results in even more loss. Ideally you need to re-rip from the source CD.

Lossless is always better, preferably something like FLAC. You can then turn that into a high quality MP3 if need be fairly simply :).

Try BonkEnc, I think it would be good for what you want.

If its for playing in the car, it might change what format and quality you need. MP3 is the standard, but sounds poor at low bitrates compared to some newer lossy codecs. Obviously lossless is best, but it results in higher filesize and less compatibility.

Been using Easy CD-DA Extractor for years and it good software for the job plus does so many more things when it comes to ripping and re-encoding
