Convert AVI to GIF

I have a short video clip in AVI format that I'd like to convert to an animated GIF, does anyone have any recommendations for decent software that will allow me to do this?

You could use virtualdub to save out a sequence of images

You mark the bit you want then file>save image sequence.

Then use unfreez to make the gif
