Convert from avi to DVD - do I need a good graphics card?

Beyond the Ultraworld...
Hi all,

I currently have a P4 3.2HT CPU and 1GB of DDR Ram and am using the standard 64mb onboard video chip on my mobo.

The problem I am encountering is that when I convert avi (xvid/divx) to DVD during fast motion scenes the picture on the DVD becomes pixelated and blocky.

I have tried several programs and was wondering if the fact that I am using onboard video has anything to do with it or does the converting process only use the CPU to convert and not the GPU.

Any help is appreciated as when I convert I get the "judder" when the camera pans and also I get a blocky picture when there is a fast moving scene.

I have tried converting from 1 HD to another and tried using the same HD but the results are the same.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks in advance.

are you just leaving the pc alone e.g. doing nothing on it while it converts? as i think if you do something intensive like gaming or something as demanding at the same time as converting it can lead to jumping?

Try slowing the conversion right down. It will take a heck of a lot longer to convert, but it will give your PC more time to think about what it's doing and *should* produce a better quality video.

Watch the scene that is pixelated on your PC before converting, is it ok? Have you created the Avi or is this one you have downloaded?

You haven't set up the codec properly the bitrate is too low, either use variable bitrate 2 pass encoding or use a dual layer dvd so you can have a higher constant bitrate.
