I live in england and am going to amsterdam for a few days, whats the cheapest and best rate to get?

I have been to spain before and always got the best rate in spain for euros but i dont know how it works in amsterdam so what is a good rate on the euro and good places?

thnx

I just use my card at the ATM'd abroad now... far less hassle than having a bundle of euro's sitting in my wallet for the sake of saving a tenner :p

Post Office are good, I made the schoolboy error of using First Choice once because they said they don't charge comission. It turns out they don't but they give you a really crap exchange rate to make up for their loss. I was also charged by VISA for using my debit card to do the transaction which I understand but it would have been nice for First Choice to tell me, not even a sign in their store. The Post Office on the other hand give a good rate, and tell you about bank charges if you use a debit card.

Tip: if you type something like "100 GBP in EUR" into google it will do a currency conversion at the current exchange rates.

Whoa there cowboy, there's using smileys to indicate something and there's being downright blunt. That was probably slightly blunt.

You will not get a better rate than pre-booking your currency online at www.travelex.co.uk and picking it up at the airport. I use them just about every week with my work travels.

Current rate 1 Pound = 1.3032 Euros and commission free if you pre-book online. Just need to book 24 hours in advance.

:)

For the amounts of money you are probably looking at (a few hundred quid?) then the differences between the different places will be next to nothing.

£500 @ 1.291 = 645.5 Euros
£500 @ 1.3032 = 651.6 Euros

So for the sake of 5 euros or so, do what ever is more convenient.
