Convert RF Fireplace to IR?

I've got an Logitech Harmony Ultimate remote and I am looking to control my fireplace which is an RF controlled device. There are 6 buttons:
Flame on
Flame off
Heat on 1KW - Press again for heat off
Heat on 2KW - Press again for heat back to 1KW
Light bulb -
Light bulb +

Not sure what the last two do, it seems nothing.

I want to convert this to IR, is there a simple way to do this? The main buttons I would need are the first 4, possibly all 6 though if I work out what the others are for.

I can't think of an easy way to do this without some severe dismantling/rewiring.

Unless there's an IR module/kit for your fireplace, or some kind of universal "device" which converts a given IR signal into a given RF signal, then you'd basically have to build a new control module to replace the existing one.

Thanks..

I have searched and found various posts, many things which look like they could work but I am not sure. I have found things like this:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Learn-Button-Inf...6895935?rmvSB=true&clk_rvr_id=966938907470&ss PageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Would that work? If so - Where do I put that unit? How do I merge the two together to learn my harmony remote the IR command to send?

Or possibly some kind of RF extender with IR compatibility? If so how do I go about that?

Thanks..

You could possibly bodge that unit together with the existing remote - connect each of the channels on the IR unit to bridge the buttons on the RF remote - e.g. when the IR unit closes the connection on the channel it emulates you pressing the button and sends the RF signal - this would give you 4 channels (e.g. for the first 4 buttons)

From the looks of it, that IR unit has a learning function, so if the harmony remote has the functionality to create a custom IR signal, you could create custom signals for the functions you need and then get the unit to learn them.

Ok so what you're saying about the learning part is lets say (I don't know how it works but I will say IR 'transmits' are codes).

So if I can specify on my remote to send code XT56 which could be button 1 on the IR unit, it would press that button which then sends an RF over to the fire place?

Something like that - if you look at the IR unit you linked, it has a little button on it marked "learn".

So you'd set up your harmony remote with the code (e.g. "XT56"), push/hold the "learn" button on the IR unit to put it into learning mode, push the button on your harmony remote to send the code, then push again/let go of the "learn" button to save it.

The only problem with this solution is that you'll be destroying the original remote, so if the IR unit doesn't work very well you'll be a bit stuck...

So, ideally what I need is something that will just convert them over to RF. IE it learns both IR from remote and then RF from original. Send the IR from harmony and it bounces out an RF to the fire? Surely this is possible...

That's exactly what you want :)

Whether such a "thing" exists on the other hand...
