Converting a fan from molex to 3 pin?

Can this be done?

I have a 120mm intake fan that connects via molex to gain power. But on my mobo there is a 3 pin plug that will record the fan speed.

I have a 3 pin plug. I was just wondering if I could mod it to take power from the mobo instead? And the likely hood of it being able to tell me the fans RPM...or does it need to have this as a feature..?

Needs the third wire to monitor RPM.
If there are only two wires out of the fan it won't work.
