Converting avi files to dvd. What software do you use?

Im currently using some software called convertx to dvd, but when I watch them back, they are pixelated and blocky at certain part of the file.

Is this the burn? Or the conversion process?, and what software does everyone else use?

Not sure if this is going to answer your question 100% but, when the file was 1st made from dvd to avi, it loses a lot of information in the process to make it a lot smaller. - think of it like going from a CD to a small MP3 file.
If you then change the file back again, the information will still be lost.

Or it could be just a low quality dvd transfer program, I cannot help you there though, Iam not sure what are the good uns from the bad.

How big are the file(s) you're converting to DVD? I've used ConvertXToDVD loads of times and never had any issues with the video being pixelated.

DVDFlick is a good freeware alternative that I've used too.

Increase the quality setting within the application.

If you've left it to default the conversion quality should be fine. It sounds like problems reading from the DVD itself.

settings are on default. havent changed any of them

a lad i just spoke to said it could be the bit rate, im at work now though so cant check what it is. he also recommended trying winavi.

all files to be converted are excellent base quality. hmmmm. head scratcher this one.

Ive used winavi or windvd or w/e it was before, simply as. Think last time I ended up using convertx as I cant find my serial for windvd anymore.

If youve got it set to keep the file size as a dvd size, then it could easily be that the bit rate is changing to a lower one on those areas to keep the size down. If you work out the best bit rate you can use that will keep your file dvd size, use that and have a constant one instead.
