Hi All

One for the experts, I have a design in EPS format, but I want to convert it to Adobe Illustrator....reason I cant open the EPS file in Adobe at present is because I have version CS2. Anyone know a programme that can convert the file so I can use it?

On a side note if I updated Adobe to a newer version, would I have the same problem if I tried to open up my designs ive made with the older version of Adobe? I.e am I stuck unless I re-design them on the newer version? I'm hoping not.

I'm no expert as you can see :-/

Adobe Illustrator format is proprietary so you're not likely to find a tool that can do that conversion.

I'd see what formats it can open and use a workaround. E.g. maybe it can open SVG, PS, or PDF, so convert your EPS to one of those first. PS (PostScript) is probably the most compatible, I'd start there.

Edit: some non-free programs might be able to do it in one step. CoralDRAW possibly.

The eps files might be in the new format of Illustrator; there should be an option in the newer version to save them in a comparability mode which will work with old versions. Both eps (I believe) and ai can be saved in compatibility mode with the newer versions so there's no harm in upgrading and you won't lose backwards compatibility.

If you want to email them to me I can convert them for you? Email below.

https://inkscape.org/en/download/ is another tool that will do EPS -> SVG, PDF or PS, so might be worth a try
