Hey folks,

So im not really a fan boy of either console, im happy to say they are both good.

Anyway, I want to get a Blu-Ray player, I already have a DVD recorder/player and my first idea was to sell that, to get a standalone blu-ray player.

I've now thought, why not sell the 360? And get a PS3 and use it for a blu-ray player, keeping my dvd-recorder.

Im not especially keen on either consoles exclusive games, I really only play Pro Evo 2010 and Burnout paradise, and I would imagine they are both the same on either console.

So just a check list really, games aside, what do I really need with the PS3?

Im obviously going to get the slimline, 120gb model.

So I need 1 more wireless controller (to have 2 wireless controllers total)?

Blu Ray remote control I guess also?

Is that all that's generally needed to get me started?

Thanks :)

You don't really need the blu-ray remote unless you want it to feel 'proper'. The controller is fine. Start to play/pause. L1/R1 to skip chapters. L2/R2 to fast forward/rewind etc etc. the only accessories I have every bought for my fat 40gb is: a £250gb HDD from here for £38-something and a 2nd controller.

That sounds fair enough using a controller would be fine :) Do I need to buy a charger or anything? For my xbox I used a plug in one where you take the batteries off and charge them via the mains.
Do I need a similar PS3 one?

No, you plug the PS3 controller into the USB socket on the console to charge it. Maybe get a USB extension lead though as the included lead is a little small when it comes to wanting to carry on playing from the sofa when needing to charge it.

Also, I heard things like bluetooth is not as good as xbox wireless for things like GH / Rock Band? Is that the case or has any issue been sorted?

+ Is there a headset etc or do I buy one seperate?

Ive never had a problem with Guitar hero or RockBand with the PS3, you dont get a headset in the box with the PS3 so you would need to get one.
You can use pretty much any Bluetooth head set on the PS3 so if youve got an old phone Bluetooth headset it may be worth trying that first.

When it comes to having two controllers - I went and bought one only to find out that ALL the games I had had no multiplayer option other than online :p

So other than a sub for the other one when it runs out of power it has no use, aka waste of money :D so check beforehand.

Watching films = get the official remote, it's excellent.
+1 now its only £10 its a must buy for any PS3 owner imo. No more having to turn the controller on in the middle of the film/pressing the wrong button taking you back to the menu etc.

Agreed, so much easier to use the remote rather than faffing around with the controller.

I'd rather be faffing around with the controller and have 10 squid in my pocket ;D.

I made the switch, and I'm really enjoying it.

Not having to shell out an annual subscription, blu ray collection can now start, some of the exclusives are fantastic, however the 2 that are the most appealing (to me atleast) I've had to import.

Wireless controller with built in battery pack, wireless built in, BBC iPlayer support, Internet browser...

It really is miles ahead of the 360 (imo) in terms of multimedia functionality and it's extra features listed above.

however I wouldn't get rid of the 360, they're not that expensive second hand and some of the exclusives (mass effect 2 mainly, Gears 2, Halo 3 etc).

so imo, get the PS3, you wont regret it. and keep the 360.

yep

The offical remote is the business. Makes me want to cry going back to regular IR remotes after having used bluetooth. Being able to have my PS3 hidden away, and still have the controllers and remote working is very cool.

Without being a fanboy in either way - I just preferred my 360, Im not into any of the exclusive games for either console, and for me the online element of the 360 is far far better, and that matters a lot to me, as does the controller being a lot better on the 360.

Granted the PS3 is good, just not for me...
