Hi

I need to convert PDF files to workable text files. So far the only solution I've found is to buy Adobe Acrobat Standard 8 for about £200.

Are there any cheaper options out there? I've seen VeryPDF PDF editor and downloaded the trial but it doesn't seem to convert to word.

Cheers

u can copy the text from Acrobat to Word with just the reader! if i am correct it even saves the formatting, however if u have tables and picture u might have a bit of problem in sorting format out.

Hi
thanks for the help.

The problem I have is that the company that sends me the PDF files have done so in picture forma, if that makes sense. I can copy and paste into MS Word but then Word see's the document as a picture and not as editable txt.

I've used Acrobat professional 8 (trial version and now run out) to elimnate this problem - basically it has an Optical Character Recognition facility to convert the 'picture' into ASCII code - i.e. MS Word see's characters and not just a picture containing words. I think the Adobe standard version will do the same thing.

I don't really want to pay £200 for the use of a single feature in Adobe, i.e. the OCR use - I don't need to use any other feature.

Cheers

You can copy text from PDFs using the basic Acrobat, as long as the files have not been protected, but it's not great for documents with a lot of formatting. If all you need us the text, then it will work.
