converting/playing a .PAR file

Hi guys anyone know a freeware programme that will either play or convert a .PAR video file?

I've always seen .par files used in relation to error detection and correction in places like newsgroups, where's the video from?

*basically long story short, my car was hit by another member of staff at my work. Our security team have provided me with a copy of the video incident however i'm unable to play it due to the format.

That has played any media file I have ever thrown at it.
