Converting WMA to mp3

Ive been trying to use VLC to do this but cant get it to work. Anyone either know how to get it to work or know of an alternative way of doing it?

burn wma to cd and rip to mp3 using windows media player

DBPowerAmp will probably do it. Even iTunes will do it. Won't work if it's a copy-protected WMA file, though.

Be aware that you're converting from one compressed format to another; you'll thus inevitably lose quality.
