Right, Chris1712 kindly gave me a disc that converts XP to Media Centre Edition without a reload... Sounds good, I had just reloaded my PC so I thought I'd just try MCE...

The disc is a BartPE disc.. And has 4 steps:
1. Installs .Net Framework
(reboot)
2.Installs MCE 2005
(Reboot)
3.Pre Rollup2
(Reboot)
4. Rollup2
(reboot and done)

Right, I go through the steps, But when I get to the Rollup2 stage (Step 4)
it says "Can only install on MCE 2005"
It's like now half installed as I have the blue energy theme but the Media centre bit doesnt work...

Chris Installed it perfectly using the same software config as me (XP Pro Corp, Same Disc)

Any Ideas how to get this working + Has anybody else had this problem at all??

My system (for reference) is:
AMD Athlon 2500+
1.5Gb (3 x 512mb) DDR400 RAM
Nvidia 6800GS 256mb
1 x 120gb SATA HDD
1 x 40gb IDE HDD

I don't think it makes any difference though...
Cheers

I have the answers to all your problems..
"GET RID". :D

Quoting My friends there...
No I was only installing it because of Chris's "ITS NICE AND SHINY" comment.
And after a fresh load it isn't a big hassle. (Well it is now)

Just be glad you aren't me and only have one half decent PC in the house

I remember many a time when mine has gone arse over ear and I've been a little stuck :(

Yeah so just another bump for ya really - hope someone actually knows how to fix this :\

Luckily this PC still works and still says I have XP Pro. It's like half installed. But My PC works fine..
Hmmm It is a strange one since it worked Chris1712's PC perfectly.

Any difference in service packs/updates between your two systems at all?

I know you're probably both running corporate but just incase, is Chris running something different? Could be the cause of your problems.

After this sort of generic debugging I just get lost in windows tbh.

Both Using XP Pro Corporate, installed off the same disc.
Both SP2
It is home brew software though so I know it's not 100% Perfect.
Anybody Actually done this, got the problem and fixed it?

Would'nt that be the illegal version.. ?

It's irrelevant to the problem whether they're using illegal versions or not. What he's trying to explain by saying that is that they're using the same OS.

lol you need to change a string in the registry its called windows xp media or something like that value from 0 to 1 but this can only be done while windows is not running. Thats why the disc is a preinstallation environment disc, obviously did not install correctly.
