i have been using convert X to dvd for many years

the thing is, even when set on "time critical" conversion, it only uses 20% of the CPU and none of the GPU so i feel im waiting much longer than i need to be

is there something that can make use of the i7 2600, the z68 quicksync?

im hoping for an alternative that can make proper use of the computer so im not waiting as long :)

Genius, thanks, ive set it to 8 and ill test the results another day :)

ok then, ive just done a test conversion with 8 cores selected, it has gotten better, but still not what i want really

The conversion is happening at 5.5x the real fps, but only using 27% of the CPU and most of that is one core

if only there was a program that could max it out, i'd be getting 20x approx :D

You might have joy with one of the following:

DVD Flick

Avi2Dvd

Free Video Converter

thanks, ill have a look at these

What type of video are you encoding? MKV's take a lot longer than say AVI due to how they are made and require more time.

they were avi files

Also in your screen shot I see you are only doing a single pass, I would advise to change that to two pass since it will produce better results.

we watch the dvd's on an sdtv, i have tried both before and you couldnt tell the difference so i stick to 1 pass for speed :)

What is your CPU running at? My i7 930 (1366) runs at 4GHz and I covert a 2 hour AVI movie in about 10 minutes give or take a bit.

i7 2600 is running at stock (non-k version)

Also what version of ConvertXtoDVD are you using? If you are not using the latest version then update it and try again and see if there is a difference.

using the latest :)

thanks :)
