Hello Chaps, my trusty Sony Z series laptop is starting to show its age about 6 years old, it has started to struggle on normal apps etc. I am looking to upgrade the only laptop that has caught my eye is the Dell XPS 13, but I always hated dell. But it fits my needs.

Nice compact laptop, lovely screen, good specs. . It has received great reviews just I never thought I would by a dell laptop.

Just i never owned one and a few friends always said they were not good in general , and any laptops i have fixed for family had a few rubbish ones, i dont know much about them, we have few servers at work that are Dell. what is there customer support like etc and build quality

Ive not had a dell laptop in my group of companies that saw out 3 years, 2 years was a push and saw quite a few XPS/inspiron/vostro models lay down well inside their warranty, some several times. I refuse to buy Dell now.
What I will commend them on is their servers, they do seem to last but have only needed their service backup once and it was ok.
Laptops though, Id rather run my tallywhacker through a lemon grate.

Yes this is the problem, my Sony Z series i paid over £1600 and its lasted 6 years still going, but just the centrino cpu does not cut it any more. But the reviews just shocked me that they were so good on this model

Having worked in hardware support for six years, Dell laptops aren't really any worse than laptops from other manufacturers, in my opinion. The XPS 13 is a very nice little machine but I have to admit that I have seen a couple of them dying after less than a year of non-intensive use, though.

you can still buy sony Z ( newer 2012 models) with Quad core cpu, 8 gig ram and blistering fast dual raid SSD drives, rare as hens teeth but they are still about if you know where to look. I have the special anniversary edition and its a joy to look at and use.

There are some nice vaio pro 13 about if you still after sony, warranty and repair will become an issue or you can stll import them from japa but the keyboard is strange in the sense it has small space bar.

But have to agree the sony Z were some of the best laptops ever made.

But honestly dell is very good and reliable brand of laptops. I have a dell machine that is going strong after almost 7-8 years.

Dell latitudes are what you should have got - never had any issues even with refurbed or second hand ones. The D and E series ones are practically indestructible.

Dell are no worse than any other laptops. We have thousands out in the field and have been no worse than the past Lenovo laptops.

The Dell XPS 13 is a smart piece of kit which get fantastic reviews. my only gripe is the webcam but I see why they did that.

I'm a big fan of Dell kit, and the XPS 13 looks like it'd be a great buy.
Although not sure on that webcam placement...

Curious... Have Dell upped the prices on the XPS 13? I remember it starting at lower price range?
