Convince me to buy an Ipod (or not)

Hi everyone

Decided to get an MP3 player, but no idea which one to get.

Ipod seems the way everyone's going and there's loads of accessories for it.

One of the main ones I'm interested in is the car cradle where I can play songs through the car stereo. Used to have an MP3 CD player in the car, but the new car isn't easy to put one in. So thought the cradle thing would be perfect.

However, I know nothing about Ipods or MP3 players and I somehow feel loathed to buy something from Apple when I have a strong dislike for Macs.

Are there any decent alternatives to Ipod with a car cradle?

Any views would be appreciated.

P.S. Would likely need a 30Gb player

dont get an ipod the battry on them usually runs out completly after 12-18 months then you have to send it back to able for a new battery and theyll charge you £90 its honestly not worth the hasle get one with a removable battery

IPod's are ok, but there are plenty of better p0layers out there. I'd suggest a Kenwood HD30GA9, which would cost about £300 in from Japan, but it really depends on your price limit.

No offence but I really hate comments like this. I have had my 4g iPod for around a year and a half and the battery is still going strong! Holds a charge well and charges within a good time. The only thing I cannot disagree with is the fact they scratch easily, which they do!

Yes, this man speaks the truth. Also Plasma screens last about 2 years before you need to regas them. The earth is flat.
Should you need a battery for your 1st or 2nd gen Ipod they are actually £25 for a self fit kit (which was from a quick Google, rather than just spouting some rubbish I had heard from a friend of my mums mate on the t'internet).
I sold my HD5 Sony for an Ipod Nano a couple of months ago for the same reasons as you need one...car connectivity. Its a breeze to pick up a product to connect up to your car, theres simply so much choice for them its unbelievable. Sound quality through the line out is outstanding really when paired with my decent car stereo gear and through the home amp/speakers. Headphone output quality I cant tell the difference between either of the two players personally.
Downside the battery life isnt as good as my Sony was
