OK, i'm convinced intel is the best option besides alays being an amd guy. I'm buying new mobo/ram and cpu:-

E2180
Geil 2gb PC2-6400C4 (£35 offer) OR OCZ 2GB PC2-6400C4 Platinum
Abit IP35-E or Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R

I will be overclocking - Which RAM and mobo should I go for though?

sure, cooler i forgot to include. Can I ask why the gigabyte over the asus? I couldn't find a reason to go for one over the other?

Thanks

You won't be dissapointed, Intel a far superoir at the moment, you will soon forget about AMD.....

I'm digging my MSI P35 Neo2 FIR, great board.

i allso was convinced to switch, just 2 weeks ago i ordered brand new AMD system, then the transaction was cancelled for some unkown reason, then in the last week or so, i decided to go intell, never have been intel before, but seems the way to go these days :)

Lol... divine intervention perhaps?

Think Phenom just summed up AMD's year. Hopefully next year will be better, though outlook not good :(

Yeah, I was going to get a 5000 Black edition - bargain at £80 and can do 3 gig easily, and runs cool/cool power.

That's the only AMD I think can be justified at the moment if you have an AM2 board, but my board died and after looking at the e2180 for £50 which also runs cool/low power, can do 3gig AND has more cache........no brainer i'm afraid:)

Of course it might be worth getting an AM2+ board and the 5000 B.E. if you have confidence in the new Phenoms... I don't.

Yeah the E2180 clocks like a dream. Even if you just get a pretty cheap cooler for it (AC Freezer 7, best value for that kind of money IMO) it'll easily clock up to and above 3Ghz. I don't think you can get them anywhere above 3.6 though without putting them underwater. Shame about AMD though because even though I've never had a rig with an AMD setup in it, I know they do some pretty good stuff.

One guy on here has had 3.5 ish from the 5000 BE on air, so I think it is actually just a good as the e2180. BUT, in a year or so when i want to upgrade I'll only have the phenoms to look to, and even then only if I get a AM2+ board which are limited at the moment. Poor AMD :(
