Looking to build shuttle for HTPC, would like advice on an apropriate Core 2 Duo, ie cool running, not too interested in clocking it

The E2140/2160 chips run very cool, especially as they have only 1MB cache on-board.

Dunno about that, my E2140 runs a lot hotter than a E6300 I have?

If you do want to keep temps down they maybe buy the fastest stock speed u can afford.

does a Q6600 for example run significantly hotter than the E2140/2160 chips?
Quads do run hotter than Dual-Cores, however I have seen users Quads run cooler than an E2140, lol go figure! :D

Make sure you have speedstep enabled as well, as this drops the temps down a bit as well. Ideal for HTPC setups :)

a lot of people say the e6420 is a really cool chip and i cant fault it. but their are the new 1333fsb chips out that give a slight performance boost for more of less same money.

thanks for all the replies guys, I read a lot of other threads etc as well and finally just went for an E2160 then if I need more power :) I can upgrade later as this was relatively cheap @ £58. fancy a Quad mind ;)

The Shuttle I went for here I`ll prob stik a quietish gfx card in later any reccomendations?
