Hi all i am wondering if anyone knows how the hell i can get cool and quiet working on my spare computer. Its a socket 754 and its running on a Asus K8V-MX, ive installed the software from the cd and have enabled it in the bios but it just dont slow down.

My main rig is S939 and works perfect but this one aint working at all.also ive looked on the asus web site but they aint got any updades that mention cool and quiet.

Many thanks for any replies

enabeled in bios?

make sure u goto device manager and click on processor and update each core with the amd 64 drivers via amds website, remember to update one core and when it ask to restart click no and do the other core update that one and then restart when asked.

also in power managment select "mininum power mangement"
then run amd clock from amd website again and that will show 1ghz clock speeds hopefully...

Uhmm installing it on both cores that might explain some random lockups!

I aint got a duel core amd its a 3400+ s754 (old)
I have got the latest drivers for the processor but like i said i just dont seem to work.
The cool and quiet come to think of it didnt work when i had this proccesor in a msi mobo so i thought it might be a known problem with the 754's,the cool and quiet software with the 754 mobo doesn't let me change anything as where the 939 mobo software lets me change stuff

Do you have the power settings on minimal power management?

How do i do that,do i go into power options and set it from always on to minimul power management ?

also why do i have to this when on my 939 comp i aint touched it.

When I updated the driver for both cores my quiet and cool magicly switched on... updating 1 core didnt work.

Even though I had it enabeled in bios and minimal power settings, clearly installing AMD 64 new drivers didnt work not untill I manualy updated each core to the inf file from the AMD folder.

Very odd but hey it worked....

Odd... I just installed the driver once (by running the exe) and all was fine. Maybe if you are updating from an earlier AMD driver, it's different. But for first time installing, the exe works. There's no need to update the driver though, it adds no functionality.

:) Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Manual says for Windows XP/2000,
Click Start, Select Settings, Then Control Panel (make sure set to Classic View).
Double Click Display icon, then select Screen Saver tab.
Click Power button, then on dialog box, you need to alter setting in 'Power Schemes' box to select ' Minimal Power Management'.
Then Click OK.
Hope that works
:D

I don't think the old 3400+ (clawhammer) support C&Q. I think the CPU needs some hardware support which the older AMD 64bit chips have. Could be wrong but I'd forget about it mate.

Had the same problem, hooked up to a msi k8n neo4 mobo,my problem was that there was 2 connections for the cpu fan,it was on the 2 wire one and needs to be on the 3 wire connection for speed control loop to work.Hope this helps.

Exactly what I thought :)

The driver was already using that new Athlon64 processor driver as well, it wasnt untill I updated both cores then when I switched it back on and ran AMD clock and it was at 1ghz which was a lovely sight especially since it took me a week to figure it out.

With my old Asus board it was nice and simple enable it in bios/load the quiet and cool driver off disc and set to min power and wallah, not with my X2-4400/Abit AN8 ultra though! I found out a few other peeps on the abit board with the same issues....

ok ive got the cpu down to 1000mz but the fan stays the same speed do i have to do somthing else or should this be automatic

Btw Thankyou for all your help everyone

You need to turn on your motherboards fan control facility to get the fan to slow down. All that Cool n Quiet does is reduce the CPU voltage and clock speed. It's then entirely up to the motherboard manufacturer to implement a fan control facility.

In my bios on my neo1 and 2 I used the smart target option also, this helped with the fan speeds.
