Cool the GPUs?

I have just upgraded my computer after the RAM failed. It now has a Coolit ECO ALC which is cooling the CPU. The CPU temperature before was around 65-72 degrees on idle (I know that is extreme). With the ECO it now runs at 27-30 degrees.

I couldn't afford to upgrade my computer, it was only because it broke that I was forced to. So I am looking for a cheap (Ideally free) method(s) to cooling down my GPUs: 2 x 8800GTS in SLI.

I do happen to have a 'Zalman VF1000 LED VGA GPU Copper Heatpipe Cooler' although I have never attached this heatsink. As the GPU is bigger than the cooler I was worried that it might not cool it more than the stock, plus I didn't have the underhalf to cool the RAM. I also have quite a lot of Zalman RAM heatsinks left over which I might use on the GPU.

N.B/ I have also taken the shrouds off the GPUs to let more air get to them. I did have mini fans, 40mm, taped to the cards though they fall off fairly easily. Especially as they hang upside down.

PCI-E x 1 - 8800GTS - 74 degrees
PCI-E x 2 - 8800GTS - 64 degrees

Obviously the first slot is working considerably harder: Even though both the GPUs are the same design and model they are made by two different companies. I have tried switching their positions but the top card, currently the bottom, would get to 80 degrees or higher. Massive difference in their heat dissappation.

Those temps look fine for GPUs, but that graphics cooler you've got will be far better than any stock cooler. Have a look at the Akasa Vortexx's, supposed to be really good for the price.

I thought that anything over around 60 degrees would be bad unless under load. Do you think it would be worth adding the RAM heatsinks / heat spreaders? I will try adding the cooler to the top card also as you suggest.

The latter card really doesn't do much it is mainly there so I can have four monitors, not so much to improve performance.

I have only just realised after spending ages dedicatedly building my computer that I have put the three 120mm exhaust fans the wrong way around and they are blowing into the case...

Thank you for telling me to install the VGA cooler and RAM sinks! The temperature is now 48 and 54 respectively. Both have cooled down!

Now I have ensured that the GPUs and CPU won't overheat. It is time I started overclocking :-)
